AboutMe

I have extensive experience in conducting cross-border investigative journalism. In the last two years, I have been involved in five such projects, including four funded by JournalismFund Europe and one by IJ4EU.

A notable collaboration with two Nigerian journalists in 2023 yielded an article published in EUobserver, which earned the 2023 Hostwriter Story Award. This investigation delved into the lack of compensation by TotalEnergies to residents of Nigeria's River States following persistent oil spills. The piece highlighted TotalEnergies' failure to conduct essential cleanup and land restoration, posing significant health risks and jeopardising local ecosystems and water sources.

Another investigation in collaboration with one Nigerian and one Ghanaian journalists, focusing on the EU’s exports of faulty spare car parts to West Africa, made the Global Investigative Journalism Network's top ten for Sub-Saharan Africa in 2023. While my colleagues focused on the Nigerian and Ghanaian contexts, I investigated the situation at European ports as well as the broader EU legislative level. We revealed that many exported cars failed European emission standards and lacked basic road-worthiness certifications, contributing to the air pollution in Africa’s growing cities as well as increase the possibility of road accidents.
